Playing safely
Flirt poles involve fast starts and sharp turns, so start slow and keep sessions short while your dog gets used to the motion. Use it on soft, level ground with room to run, and let your dog catch the lure regularly — the win is what makes the game worth playing. Go easy with puppies whose growth plates are still developing, with senior dogs, and with any dog recovering from injury. If you're unsure whether this kind of exercise suits your dog, ask your vet first.
Supervise play, check that the pole is locked at your chosen length before you start, and confirm each lure is seated firmly on the tether before a session. Replace any lure or tether that becomes frayed or damaged. Not a chew toy — put it away between sessions.
